The GMBU e.V. has its head office in Halle/Saale and is a non-profit research facility with three independent sections in Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Saxony. Since they were established in 1992, these sections have been developed as an integral part of industrial research and innovation in the central German region as a link between applied basic research and free economy.

GMBU Halle deals since many years with investigations of applying ultrasonics to the chemical, food and bio technology. The activities encompass the development of sensoric solutions supported by ultrasonics as well as the use of cavitation processes induced by power ultrasonics. A further topic is the deployment of acoustic forces to manipulate micro scaled particles in fluids.
